How Sound Frequencies Are Rewiring My Brain, My Grades, and My Aesthetic

Fashion. Beauty. Travel. Life.

Confession: My MBA textbooks and I have a love-hate relationship. Love the knowledge, hate the 47 tabs open in my brain.

Then I found study music. Not just lo-fi beats, but actual sound frequencies designed to change how we think. And as a GA girl who needs her environment to feel as good as it functions, I was hooked.

So what are sound frequencies + why should you care?

Everything is energy. Sound is just vibrations at different speeds, measured in Hz. Certain frequencies are said to sync with your brainwaves and shift your mental state. It’s like skincare for your focus.

Here’s the cheat sheet I keep by my desk:

| **Frequency** | **Vibe** | **When I Use It** |

| **40 Hz Gamma** | Memory + sharp focus | Studying for MBA exams, writing blog posts |

| **10 Hz Alpha** | Calm alertness | Getting ready, journaling, easy reading |

| **6 Hz Theta** | Creativity + flow | Brainstorming content, planning outfits |

| **432 Hz** | “Earth’s heartbeat” - grounding | Anxious days, Sunday resets, travel decompress |

But does it actually work?

Science says sound can impact us. Your brain has 5 main brainwave states. Beta is your busy, problem-solving mode. Alpha is relaxed focus. Theta is that dreamy, creative zone.

Binaural beats and specific Hz music can “entrain” your brain — basically encourage it to match that frequency. So 40 Hz music can nudge you into gamma waves: the state linked to high-level thinking + memory.

Is it magic? No. Is it the difference between rereading one page 5 times vs actually retaining my finance chapter? For me, yes.

The aesthetic part no one talks about

We curate playlists for moods, outfits for confidence, candles for vibes. Why not curate sound for productivity?

My study setup now:

Clean desk — because visual clutter = mental clutter

Iced matcha — GA heat requires it

40 Hz playlist — headphones on, world off

Warm lighting — because fluorescent library lights kill my soul

It’s not just about grades. It’s romanticizing the process. Making “locking in” feel as good as getting ready for a night out.

How to try it yourself:

Start with YouTube/Spotify: Search “40 Hz study music” or “alpha waves for focus”. No lyrics = less distraction.

Match frequency to task: Deep work = gamma/beta. Creative work = theta. Chill reading = alpha.

Time it: Try 25 min on, 5 min off. That’s the Pomodoro method + frequencies. Elite combo.

Make it pretty: Create a “Study Soundtrack” cover for your playlist. Name it something main-character: “CEO Sessions” or “MBA Mode”.

My current faves:

“40 Hz Gamma Waves - Pure Tone” for case study marathons

“Alpha Waves + Rain” when GA thunderstorms hit and I need to write

“432 Hz Piano” for Sunday night planning + resetting my week

Real talk: Will sound frequencies turn you into Einstein overnight? Nope. Sleep, hydration, and actually reading still matter. But as someone balancing grad school, running a beauty business, and life, I’ll take any legal brain hack that also makes my desk feel like a vibe.
